Trauma reconstruction surgery deals with treating patients who have sustained injuries caused by a severe impact.
The goals of reconstructive surgery are to improve both function and form.
Examples of severe impacts that may require surgery:
- Car accidents
- Gunshot wounds
- Blunt force trauma
- Stab wounds
- burn wounds
- Sports injuries
Dr Najjaar may work with a multidisciplinary team of specialists such as vascular and orthopaedic surgeons in cases where the injury is more extensive. Before Dr Najjaar can treat a patient, he may utilise different screening methods that can help assess the severity and extent of their injuries.
Dr Najjaar offers treatment with the following traumatic injuries:
Burns
Dr Najjaar treats both acute injuries as well as long term adverse burn wound sequelae, such as scar contracture.
If your acute injury is severe, you may need to undergo a debridement, which is the removal of dead tissue. Once that is complete, there are several types of wound treatments that your plastic surgeon may suggest. Dr Najjaar will discuss the options available that best suits your need.
As a sequelae to a burn wound , some patients may develop a limitation of mobility, loss of hair or a cosmetically unappealing scar. Dr Najjaar will thoroughly assess the problem and discuss what treatment options are best for you.
Skin lacerations
A laceration is a deep cut in your skin. Deep lacerations can cause rapid bleeding, and medical attention is required immediately. First, we stabilize the patient and then evaluate the extent of the cut. Next, we close the laceration with stitches. Although many emergency room doctors can close a minor laceration, a plastic surgeon is more equipped to treat wounds that are uneven, jagged or where skin is missing.
