
Dr Azzaam Najjaar
MBChB (UCT), MMED (UCT), FC Plast Surg (CMSA)
Dr Azzaam Najjaar is a plastic surgeon currently practicing at Melomed Tokai.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree (MBChB) from the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2006. It was during his undergraduate training that he discovered a passion for Plastic Surgery while on his Surgical rotation.
He went on to complete two years of internship training at the Tygerberg Academic Hospital. In 2008, during his second year as an intern, Dr Najjaar also completed the American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course.
In 2009, he completed the required one year of community service as a Medical Officer in the department of General Surgery and Neurosurgery at Livingstone Hospital in the beautiful city of Port Elizabeth. It was during this time that he completed the Basic Surgical Skills Course (BSSC) and the American College of Surgeons Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course.
In 2010, Dr Najjaar commenced his Plastic Surgery training as a Medical Officer. Here he worked in the Department of Burns and Plastic/Reconstructive Surgery within the Port Elizabeth Hospital Complex. In 2011, he completed the Basic Microsurgical Skills course. While working in Port Elizabeth, he was involved with multiple Plastic Surgery research projects. These were presented at the annual national Plastic Surgery congresses.
In order to further his training in Plastic Surgery, Dr Najjaar returned to his home city, Cape Town. Here he worked at Tygerberg Academic Hospital as a registrar in Plastic Surgery.
He completed his Plastic Surgery training at his Alma Mata, the University of Cape Town. While a resident at UCT, he worked at the world-famous Groote Schuur Hospital, home of the world’s first successful heart transplant. Part of his training included working at the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital.
In 2019 he undertook the final board examination with the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa and received his certification as a Fellow of Plastic Surgery (FC Plast Surg).
In 2020, Dr Najjaar was awarded his master's degree (MMED) in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, with distinction, by the University of Cape Town (UCT).
Dr Najjaar’s extensive training and skills motivates him to help patients to the best of his ability and provide them with care that is exceptional. His special interests lie in helping people that have suffered traumatic injuries and those that have skin cancer. In addition, he aims to help people who are interested in body contouring, as well as reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery.
